Today, Roo, age 2, is doing Garden Math. "I count. I count." play! At her own request, we decided to count cherry tomatoes from Daddy's backyard garden. We counted 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7!
Then, we did some one to one correspondence. I got tiny bowls ( enough for each tomato). I have simple instructions. "Please put one tomato in each bowl." I modeled for her what I wanted. Them, she did it on her own, counting aloud.
Math is easy. Just use whatever you have on hand...even if your hand has to pick it from the garden first :)
